Functional Art by Journeymen

Robert A. Mickelsen, known as RAM, is a pioneering American glass artist with over five decades of experience in flameworking. Renowned for his extraordinary craftsmanship, intricate designs and imaginative sculptural work, his pieces are collected worldwide and have been featured in prestigious collections, including the Smithsonian Institution and the Corning Museum of Glass.

2012 — a milestone in functional glass art. The two historic pieces shown here, created in 2012, represent the first two water pipes ever made by Robert A. Mickelsen. They mark the beginning of his exploration into functional glass art.

Nate Purcell, known as JAG (Just Another Glassblower), is a pioneering American glass artist whose innovative designs helped shape the modern functional glass movement. Beginning his career in 1998, JAG became a leading figure in Philadelphia’s glass scene. Renowned for his sleek, sculptural forms, technical precision, and distinctive style, JAG creates functional works that blur the line between everyday pieces and fine art.
