510 cartridges, all-in-ones and pods

A 510 cartridge is the standard screw-on tank. It holds the oil and nothing else, so you supply the battery — any 510-threaded pen works, which is why most people who vape regularly end up with one battery and a rotating shelf of carts. An all-in-one (you will see it written AIO) is the cart and the battery sealed together in one disposable unit: nothing to screw on, nothing to charge in most cases, and you throw the whole thing away when it is empty. A pod is the in-between — a proprietary cartridge that only fits its own brand's device.

If you are buying your first one, the all-in-one is the simpler purchase because there is no compatibility question to get wrong. If you already own a 510 battery, cartridges are usually the better value per gram.

Live resin, live rosin and distillate

Distillate is the most refined and the most neutral — high potency, very little of the plant's original aroma, and typically the cheapest per gram. Live resin is extracted from flash-frozen fresh plant rather than dried material, so it keeps far more of the terpenes and tastes much closer to the strain it came from. Live rosin is solventless — pressed with heat and pressure instead of extracted chemically — and it is the most expensive of the three for that reason.

In practice the price ladder on our shelf runs roughly in that order, and the difference you actually notice is flavour rather than strength.

Will it fit my battery?

Anything labelled 510 fits any 510 battery, which is the large majority of pens sold in New York. Pods only fit their own brand's device. All-in-ones need nothing at all. If you are unsure what you are holding, bring it to the counter or the window and a budtender will tell you in about ten seconds.
